We’ve managed to drag the team away from the rum stills for 5 minutes to introduce them properly…
Richard Harding, Chairman
What’s your position, or how do you support TCDC?
Chairman, I oversee the general strategy of the business and look after the accounts and finance. I also support the sales and marketing effort by attending trade shows.
What does a typical day look like for you?
No two days are the same for me. I am also responsible for Norton Barton Artisan Food Village. I could be dealing with corporate finance issues one day and the next filling bottles of rum. It’s the variation that excites me. We have a collection of great products and a fantastic team so every day is a joy.
What’s your favourite rum and the best way to drink it?
A difficult one for me…its a toss up between our new rum Mooncurser and Kalkar our coffee spirit. I think on balance I would have to say Kalkar on its own over ice.
What’s your favourite part of your job, or best memory?
I really love the consumer shows when we are sampling the products and getting the feedback. Luckily it is positive. My best memory was getting such a positive response from Rick Stein about our products when we first started.
If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go?
Before moving to Cornwall I was fortunate to travel extensively for my previous job. As an emerging markets investment manager I travelled to Eastern Europe before the Berlin Wall came down and spent many months in Latin America. I have never been to New Zealand and from pictures it looks absolutely beautiful so that’s where I would go.
